Meet Mr. Welch!

My name is Case Welch and I am currently seeking my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Metro State University. I was born and raised in the mountains of Colorado in a town called Edwards and only moved to Jefferson County about two years ago. I am 34 years old and I have two kids: a two and ½ year old little girl and an eight month old baby boy. After a career in real estate and many customer service jobs revolving around the ski industry, I found my calling to work with young children. I worked for The Youth Foundation, a non-profit organization, which eventually led to a job with a local K-8 grade school named Stone Creek Charter School. I was hired as a technical assistant which quickly led to a teacher assistant position. While working for this charter school I opened a state-regulated after school program for Stone Creek. Two years into this job I was laid off due to financial reasons. I then moved to Jefferson County with my family to pursue a Master’s Degree at Metro State. My hobbies are fly fishing, coaching youth hockey, skiing, and of course my family. I am looking forward to working with Mrs. Wiley and the students of Van Arsdale Elementary to complete my student teaching requirements.
Reading: This week, we used our reading skills to help us notice strong characteristic of writing that explains. Ask your student about why it is important to cite sources?
Math: We have entered into the land of mixed numbers and improper fractions! This week, students learned how to add and subtract these tricky numbers. They all worked so hard! Have your student how to subtract mixed numbers with regrouping!
Writing: We continued our persuasive writing unit, and this week we focused on how this type of writing is organized and how to create a thesis statement.
